Religious Art

One of the most famous images that have even been used as tattoos

Art around religion

A painting of Jesus Christ
Born: c. 5 B.C.
Died: c. 30 A.D. (crucifixion)
Birthplace: Bethlehem, Judea
Best known as: The son of God in the Christian religion
Jesus of Nazareth is the central figure of the Christian religion, a savior believed to be both God incarnate and a human being. He is also known as Jesus Christ, the term "Christ" meaning anointed or chosen one. Most of the details of his life are unclear, and much of what is known about his life comes from the four Gospels of the Bible. The Gospels tell the story of Jesus's auspicious birth in a stable in Bethlehem, and then of his life as an adult, a teacher with miraculous powers who foretold his own death to his closest followers, called apostles. Jesus, betrayed by the apostle Judas, was crucified by the Romans, and his resurrection three days after his death was taken as proof of his divinity. The date of Jesus's birth to Mary is celebrated each December 25th as Christmas Day. The occasion was used as the base year for the modern Christian calendar, though researchers now believe that earlier estimates were inexact and that Jesus was actually born between 4 B.C. and 7 B.C. The date of the crucifixion is now marked as Good Friday, and the resurrection celebrated as Easter.

The art behind a religious artifact

I look at the artwork that was done by the hindu people to pay homage to their god Ganesh a Hindu God of success.
The elephant-headed God is Ganesh or Ganesha. Ganesha is considered the Remover of Obstacles and the Lord of Beginnings, the patron of arts and sciences, and the God of intellect and wisdom as well as being the patron deity of Librarians.

The Hosho Player

A sculptor of a Hosho Player
This is a sculptor of a Hosho Player, this is basically a person who is playing a traditional hand held musical instrument that comes in pairs. This instrument was used in the ancient period along side with the Mbira by locals who wished to invoke the spirits. The instruments helped define a mood whether a mood for battle or a mood for joy and celebration.

The skull images

Image of a human skull

Look at his attention to detail

Almost realistic
To be or not to be, Shakespeare expressed in Othello. When looking at this human skull one cannot help to think of those words being recited by a thespian.

This skull looks almost realistic, attention to detail gives the sculptor a realistic look. Even the color and texture looks like it hah been dug up. This sculptor was actually done in commemoration of world AIDS Day

By far the most touching video montage I have ever seen

Sculptor of an elephant

Tendayi's masterpiece of and elephant playing
This here is a statue of an elephant as done by the artist Mr Tendayi Dhlamini.
In Bulawayo and Matabeleland the imagery of an elephant represents, great strength and trustworthiness. It is even used as the crest to represent the provincial rugby team. When looking at that picture one can see his attention to detail in the making of such a master piece. It even looks like the elephant is playing with its trunk.
